El 29 y 30 marzo 2016 Paul McCartney a través de sus redes sociales de facebook, twitter y página web difunde dos videos (uno cada día respectivamente) de cinco segundos de audio con fragmentos de canciones tocadas muy rápido de su etapa post-beatle, estos videos no iban acompañados de ninguna frase, imagen o párrafo y dejaba entrever entre los fans lo que sería un próximo lanzamiento. En pocas horas fans comienzan a analizar y a descifrar estos videos acertando acerca de lo que sería la próxima compilación de Macca.
Finalmente, el 31 marzo la página oficial de Paul McCartney anuncia el lanzamiento para el 10 junio 2016 el que sería su cuarto álbum recopilatorio de su carrera desde 1970 (álbum 'McCartney') hasta 2015 (EP 'Hope The Future'), es decir, abarca todas su etapa solista, con Wings y Fireman.
“Paul lanzará el 10 de junio la colección 'Pure McCartney', que abarca toda su carrera. Una versión de cuatro CD que incluyen sesenta y siete temas, más de cuarenta de los cuales estuvieron en el Top 40, incluyendo 'Maybe I'm Amazed', 'Live and Let Die', 'Mull Of Kintyre', 'Ebony and Ivory', 'Dance Tonight' y 'New'.
